O mito do Minotauro foi muito usado para mostrar as pessoas que não se devia tentar enganar ou desrespeitar os deuses. Foi passado por varias gerações na forma oral.
Tudo começou quando Minos pede para Poseidon que lhe tornasse o rei de Creta, Poseidon aceita o pedido de Minos, mas em troca envia-lhe um touro branco que sai do mar para ser sacrificado. Minos então fica encantado com a beleza incomparável do touro e resolve sacrificar outro animal tentando engana-lo.
Poseidon percebeu o ocorrido, e fez com que a esposa do rei, Pasífae através da deusa Afrodite se apaixone pelo touro, Pasífae então pede para um artesão que construa uma vaca de madeira para que pudesse copular com o touro. Deste cruzamento nasceu o Minotauro um ser com corpo humano e cabeça de touro, muito agressivo e canibal.
Minos então constrói uma torre com labirintos para aprisiona-lo lá. Devido a uma guerra entre Atenas e Creta, todos os anos sete homens e sete mulheres atenienses eram enviados para ser devorados por Minotauro. Após três anos de sacrifícios o herói Teseu resolveu enfrentar a fera. Ele conheceu a filha do rei, Ariadne que se apaixonou por ele e o ajudou entregando-lhe um novelo de lã e uma espada mágica.
Teseu então entra no labirinto e usa a lã para marcar o caminho de volta, com muito cuidado encontra Minotauro e o ataca de surpresa. Teseu segue o caminho marcado pela lã, e ajuda vários atenienses a sair do labirinto.

This cross was born the Minotaur with a human body and be bull's head, very aggressive and cannibalistic.
Minos then builds a tower maze to imprison him there. Because of a war between Athens and Crete, all men and seven years seven Athenian women were sent to be devoured by the Minotaur.
After three years of sacrifices the hero Theseus resolved to confront the beast. He met the king's daughter Ariadne fell in love with him and helped handing him a ball of wool and a magic sword.
Theseus enters the labyrinth and then uses the wool to mark the way back very carefully and find Minotaur attack by surprise. Theseus follows path marked by the wool, and helps many Athenians out of the maze.
